Workshop

WORKSHOP ON 2D PHYSICALLY-BASED DISTRIBUTED HYDRO-LOGICAL MODELLING - Two-dimensional (2D) flood modelling are still relatively new in Malaysia, even though it has been widely used in many developed countries. This hands-on workshop is intended to introduce an open source model of a 2D distributed physically-based model, known as TREX (Two-dimensional Runoff, Erosion and Export) for hydrological modelling. Researchers, academician, engineers and representatives from local and federal authorities should attend this workshop. Topics that will be discussed include:

  1. rainfall-runoffrelationship,

  2. calibrationandvalidationprocessand

  3. temporal and spatial distribution of water level.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Jazuri Abdullah is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FCE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). He obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University, USA, M.Sc. degree in Water Resources Engineering and Management from the University of Stuttgart, Germany and Bachelor of Engineering degree from the FCE, UiTM, Malaysia.

WORKSHOP ON WATER QUALITY MONITORING AND MODELLING - Monitoring provides the information that permits rational decisions to be made on the following:

  1. Describing water resources and identifying actual and emerging problems of water pollution,

  2. Formulating plans and setting priorities for water quality management,

  3. Developing and implementing water quality management programs, and

  4. Evaluating the effectiveness of management actions. Assessments require additional information, such as an understanding of the hydro-dynamics of a water body, information on geochemical, atmospheric and anthropogenic influences and the correct approaches for analysis and interpretation of the data generated during monitoring.
